Utah Utes Secure Commitment from Texas Safety Darrod ‘Bug’ Jacobs

The Utah Utes football program has made a significant addition to their 2027 recruiting class by securing the commitment of Texas safety Darrod ‘Bug’ Jacobs. Announced on June 12, 2026, Jacobs, who hails from Memorial High in Port Arthur, Texas, is a 6-foot-2 defensive back weighing between 175 and 180 pounds. His commitment is part of a successful recruiting strategy led by head coach Morgan Scalley, known for attracting elite talent from Texas. Jacobs had also received offers from several other Big 12 schools, as well as programs like Pitt and Northwestern. Initially, he was set to announce his decision on July 4, but he chose to commit early to the Utes. With Jacobs on board, the Utes now have nine high school prospects committed for the Class of 2027, marking a strong month of recruiting with six commitments in June alone. This momentum reflects the Utes' growing reputation in college football and their ability to attract top-tier talent.
