In a surprise move, Utah Utes quarterback Brandon Rose has returned to the team after spending the 2025 season at UMass. Rose, a three-star quarterback, started three games for the Minutemen and saw time under center in six games. He threw for 424 yards, completed 59% of his passes, and tossed one touchdown to three interceptions. The 2025 season was a challenging one for UMass, as the team went 0-13 and finished dead last in the MAC. Rose's decision to enter the transfer portal in early January was seen as a surprise, but his return to Utah Utes is a welcome addition to the team's quarterback depth chart. Rose will likely slot in as the team's third-string quarterback, behind Devon Dampier and Byrd Ficklin. The only other two signal callers on the team are a pair of freshmen, Kane Archer and Michael Johnson. Rose redshirted his freshman year in Salt Lake City and did not see any action in his redshirt freshman season either. During his redshirt sophomore year in 2024, Rose emerged to replace Isaac Wilson as Utah's starting quarterback. Rose's experience and depth will be a valuable asset to the Utah Utes as they head into the 2026 season.
